About Central Soil Salinity Research Institute
Central Soil Salinity Research Institute (CSSRI), Karnal, established in 1969, is a premier government research institute under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India. Located in Karnal, Haryana, the institute is dedicated to research, training, and extension in the management of soil salinity, alkalinity, and poor-quality irrigation water to enhance agricultural productivity.
The institute’s 26-hectare campus houses advanced laboratories, experimental farms, a central library, training centers, hostels, and sports facilities, providing a strong base for scientific research and farmer outreach. CSSRI has developed salt-tolerant crop varieties, reclamation technologies, and water management practices that have helped reclaim millions of hectares of degraded land across India.
