About National Dairy Research Institute
Established in 1955, the National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) in Karnal, Haryana is India’s premier center for dairy education and research. Originally founded as the Imperial Institute of Animal Husbandry & Dairying in 1923 and later shifted to Karnal, the institute is owned and managed by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). Recognized as a Deemed University since 1989, NDRI offers specialized programs such as B.Tech in Dairy Technology, M.Tech in Dairy Engineering, Dairy Chemistry, Dairy Microbiology, and Ph.D. programs in advanced dairy sciences.
The sprawling 1,384-acre campus houses a modern dairy plant, livestock farms, biotechnology labs, hostels, and a central library. With its contribution to India’s White Revolution, NDRI has become a hub for innovation, skill development, and global collaborations in dairy technology.
