UP Scholarship 2026-27: Applications Open August 11; Renewal Payments Targeted for October

24 July 2026

The Uttar Pradesh government has released a stage-by-stage schedule for its Pre-Matric and Post-Matric scholarship schemes for the 2026-27 financial year, fixing dates for every step from application through to the credit of funds. Under a government order issued by the Principal Secretary, Social Welfare Department, online applications open on August 11, 2026, with renewal candidates working to a shorter window than fresh applicants.

Key Highlights

  • Online applications open 11 August 2026 for both renewal and new applicants
  • Renewal category: applications and hard copies from 11 to 25 August; school-level work completed by 30 August
  • New applicants: registration and application from 11 August to 21 September 2026
  • Renewal payments targeted for October 2026; new applicant payments during January 2027
  • Schools must upload master data between 22 July and 5 August 2026
  • Funds to be credited directly to bank accounts through PFMS
  • Covers Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, OBC, General and Minority category students

What the new schedule sets out

The order applies to the Pre-Matric scheme for Classes 9 and 10 and the Post-Matric scheme for Classes 11 and 12. Rather than leaving individual stages open-ended, the department has attached a deadline to each one — school data upload, student application, biometric authentication, district verification, NIC scrutiny, data locking and finally the transfer of money.

The stated aim is to close the gap between application and payment that has historically stretched across an academic year, leaving students waiting on fee reimbursements well after the session has begun. The government has said the fully digital route, with money moving through PFMS straight into verified bank accounts, is intended to reduce scope for irregularities in the disbursement chain.

The school-level step students depend on

Before any student can apply, their institution has to be on the portal. All recognised schools in the state are required to upload master data between July 22 and August 5. The District Inspector of Schools and other designated officials then verify recognition status, seat numbers and related details. Marking of minority-community private schools on the portal is to be completed within the same window.

This stage matters more than it appears. If a school misses its data upload or its verification is left incomplete, students enrolled there cannot move forward regardless of their own eligibility. Students would do well to confirm with their school that the upload has been done before the application window opens.

What renewal and fresh applicants each need to watch

Renewal candidates have a compressed fortnight. Applications must be filed online and the hard copy submitted to the institution between August 11 and August 25. Biometric authentication and school-level forwarding then have to be wrapped up by August 30. Missing the hard-copy submission is one of the most common reasons renewal applications stall, since the online form alone does not complete the process.

New applicants get a longer runway, from August 11 to September 21, but pay for it at the other end — their money is scheduled for January 2027 rather than October 2026.

Where an application is found to carry errors or information flagged as questionable, the order provides for a correction and re-verification route rather than outright rejection.

Before you apply: the checks worth doing now

Most scholarship failures in Uttar Pradesh are not eligibility failures — they are documentation and bank-linkage failures caught too late. Ahead of August 11, students should confirm that their bank account is Aadhaar-seeded and DBT-enabled at NPCI level, that the income certificate is current and not expired, and that the caste certificate number is entered exactly as issued. A PFMS transfer will not land in an account that is not Aadhaar-linked, no matter how clean the rest of the application is.

Students should treat the official portal and their institution as the only authoritative sources for dates and status updates, and be cautious of third-party sites offering "direct links" or paid application help.
