About
Assam Veterinary and Fishery University (AVFU), located at Khanapara in Guwahati, Assam, is a state government university established in 2010. It is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956. AVFU was founded with the vision of advancing education, research, and extension services in veterinary sciences, animal husbandry, dairy technology, and fisheries, thereby strengthening the agricultural and allied sectors in Northeast India.
The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and doctoral programs in Veterinary Science, Animal Husbandry, Dairy Technology, Fisheries Science, and allied disciplines. Its campus is equipped with modern classrooms, laboratories, veterinary hospitals, fishery farms, a central library, computer centers, hostels, and sports facilities. AVFU emphasizes applied research, rural development, and farmer outreach programs, preparing students for careers in veterinary practice, fisheries management, agribusiness, government departments, and NGOs. Admissions Open 2026: Courses, Eligibility & Fees
Admissions at AVFU are conducted through national-level entrance exams and merit-based selection. For B.V.Sc. & A.H. (Veterinary Science) programs, students are admitted based on NEET scores or state-level entrance tests. Fisheries and allied programs require qualifying exam marks plus university entrance tests. Postgraduate programs (M.V.Sc., M.F.Sc.) involve entrance exams and interviews, while Ph.D. admissions require entrance tests, research proposals, and interviews.

The university has its headquarters in Guwahati with constituent colleges in Khanapara (College of Veterinary Science), Raha (College of Fisheries), and North Lakhimpur (College of Dairy Science & Technology).
