About
Bidar University (formerly Gulbarga University, Bidar Campus), established as an independent university in 2023, is a state government university located at Gnyana Karanji, Halhalli, Bidar, Karnataka. Founded by the Government of Karnataka through the bifurcation of Gulbarga University to serve the educational needs of the Hyderabad-Karnataka region, the university is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 2(f). Bidar University functions as an affiliating body for numerous colleges across Bidar district and offers postgraduate and research programs directly from its campus. With a commitment to providing quality higher education to students from historically backward regions of North Karnataka, the university emphasizes academic excellence, social inclusion, research development, and regional upliftment through accessible and equitable educational opportunities.
The university offers a range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs including B.A., B.Sc., B.Com, BBA, BCA, B.Ed, B.P.Ed, M.A. in Kannada, Urdu, English, Hindi, History, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, Geography, Education, M.Sc. in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, Computer Science, Biotechnology, Environmental Science, M.Com, M.Ed, M.P.Ed, M.Phil, and Ph.D. programs across various disciplines in arts, science, commerce, and education. The campus at Gnyana Karanji features developing academic infrastructure including well-equipped classrooms, science and computer laboratories, a central library with 25,000+ books, reference materials, and e-resources, departmental libraries, seminar halls with audio-visual facilities, administrative buildings, separate hostel facilities for male and female students with basic amenities, sports facilities including cricket ground, football field, volleyball, basketball courts, athletics track, indoor games, health center, cafeteria, botanical garden, and Wi-Fi connectivity .

Bidar University was inaugurated on 28 March 2023 by the Government of Karnataka to uplift higher education in one of the state’s backward districts. It is a UGC-approved state university offering 12 degrees and 24 courses across faculties of Science, Commerce, Arts, and Linguistics. Popular programs include M.Sc. (Mathematics, Computer Science, Chemistry, Sugar Technology), M.Com, MBA, MSW, MA (Political Science, Sociology, Economics, Kannada, English, Urdu, Women Studies). Admissions are based on merit lists and entrance exams (CUET PG and state-level tests). The admission process is online, followed by counseling and document verification. Fees are kept affordable, with PG programs averaging ₹15,000–₹25,000 per year, making them accessible to rural and semi-urban students.
Campus Life and Facilities
The university campus, named Gnyana Karanji, is located at Halhalli (K), Bhalki Taluk, Bidar District, covering 322 acres. It features modern academic blocks, science and computer laboratories, a central library, and departmental libraries. Hostels for boys and girls, a cafeteria, and medical facilities are being developed. Sports grounds, auditoriums, and innovation centers are planned to encourage extracurricular and research activities. The infrastructure is designed to support both academics and holistic student growth.

Scholarship & Fee Concessions
Students at Bidar University are eligible for government scholarships via the National Scholarship Portal (NSP), including Post-Matric Scholarships for SC/ST/OBC/Minority students. Karnataka’s Backward Classes Welfare Department also provides fee concessions and reimbursements for economically weaker students admitted under government quota. Merit-based concessions are expected to be introduced as the university expands. On average, 20–30% of students benefit from scholarships or fee waivers, reducing financial burden.

As a newly established university, Bidar University’s placement cell is in its formative stage. While structured placement data is not yet available, the university is building collaborations with industries in IT, commerce, social work, and education sectors. Internship opportunities, skill development workshops, and career guidance sessions are being planned to enhance employability. Students are encouraged to pursue research, government jobs, and private sector roles, with industry exposure expected to grow in the coming years.
