Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), headquartered in Rourkela, Odisha, is a public technical university established in 2002 by the Government of Odisha. Named after the visionary leader Biju Patnaik, the university was created to unify and regulate technical education across the state. Today, BPUT serves as the umbrella institution for all engineering, pharmacy, architecture, and most MBA and MCA colleges in Odisha, ensuring a standardized curriculum, examinations, and quality benchmarks.
The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in engineering, technology, management, architecture, and pharmacy. Its in-house college, the Centre for UG & PG Studies (CUPGS), directly imparts education under the university’s supervision. BPUT emphasizes research and innovation in emerging areas such as sustainable technologies, electrical engineering, climate risk management, and computer science, while also promoting industry collaboration and skill development.
The Rourkela campus spans 125 acres in Chhend Colony and is equipped with modern infrastructure including laboratories, libraries, hostels, and sports facilities. The university regularly organizes workshops, faculty development programs, and student innovation challenges to foster creativity and professional growth.
Guided by its motto “Yoga Karmasu Kaushalam” (Excellence in Action is Yoga), BPUT has become the backbone of technical education in Odisha, nurturing engineers, architects, pharmacists, and managers who contribute meaningfully to industry, academia, and society. It plays a pivotal role in shaping the state’s technical workforce and strengthening its position in India’s higher education landscape.
