Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU), Hyderabad, established in 1982, is a renowned state government open university located at Prof. G. Ram Reddy Marg, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, Telangana. It was the first of its kind in India to introduce the concept of open and distance learning, making higher education accessible to learners from diverse backgrounds. Admissions Open 2026: Courses, Eligibility & Fees
Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU), Hyderabad, was established in 1982 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). It is India’s first open university, dedicated to providing distance and online education to learners who cannot pursue conventional higher studies. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, certificate, and doctoral programs in Arts, Science, Commerce, Education, and Social Sciences. Admissions are conducted through BRAOU’s own entrance tests, CUET UG/PG, and merit-based selection. Eligibility requires 10+2 for UG programs, graduation in relevant fields for PG programs, and a master’s degree for doctoral studies. Fee structures are affordable, with UG programs costing around ₹8,000–₹15,000 annually and PG programs between ₹12,000–₹25,000 per year, making BRAOU accessible to working professionals, homemakers, and lifelong learners.
