Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), established in 2005, is a premier deemed-to-be university located at the Training School Complex, Anushaktinagar, Mumbai. Founded by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India, HBNI unifies the academic programs of several constituent institutions such as Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Tata Memorial Centre (TMC), and Institute for Plasma Research (IPR).
The university is recognized by the UGC and accredited by NAAC, with a strong emphasis on nuclear science, engineering, physical sciences, chemical sciences, mathematical sciences, life sciences, and medical sciences. It offers Master’s and Ph.D. programs, encouraging interdisciplinary research and advanced training in frontier areas of science and technology.
HBNI has over 1,000 academic staff and 1,200+ students, with more than 3,000 PhDs awarded till 2025. It is ranked among India’s top institutions in the NIRF 2025 Overall category (#20), reflecting its excellence in research output, publications, and innovation.
