I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU), located on the Jalandhar–Kapurthala Highway at VPO Ibban, Kapurthala, Punjab, is a public state university established in 1997 under The Punjab Technical University Act, 1996. Originally known as Punjab Technical University, it was renamed in 2011 to honor former Prime Minister I.K. Gujral. The university is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), approved by AICTE, and accredited by NAAC with a B grade. IKGPTU administers over 186 affiliated colleges and institutes across Punjab, offering programs in Engineering, Applied Sciences, Management, Pharmacy, Architecture, and more. The main campus at Kapurthala spans 78 acres, with modern infrastructure including laboratories, libraries, hostels, and research facilities. It has also expanded into multiple satellite campuses to increase accessibility. The university emphasizes technical education, research, and industry collaboration. It offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs, with admissions conducted through national-level entrance exams such as JEE Main and GATE for engineering, and merit-based selection for other disciplines.
