Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Izzatnagar, Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh) is one of India’s oldest and most prestigious research institutions in veterinary sciences. Established in 1889 as the Imperial Bacteriological Laboratory, it was renamed the Imperial Veterinary Research Institute in 1925 and later became the Indian Veterinary Research Institute after independence. Today, it functions under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and is recognized by the UGC.
The IVRI campus at Izatnagar spans 441 acres and serves as the headquarters, with additional regional campuses in Mukteshwar, Bengaluru, Palampur, Pune, Kolkata, and Srinagar. It is accredited with a NAAC A++ grade, reflecting its excellence in research and education.
IVRI offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in veterinary sciences and allied fields, with over 750 students and 200+ scientists engaged in cutting-edge research. Its focus areas include animal health, productivity, biotechnology, immunology, and disease diagnostics. The institute also plays a crucial role in policy support, extension services, and technology transfer for India’s livestock sector.
