Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR), established in 1987, is a premier deemed-to-be university located at Gen. Arun Kumar Vaidya Marg, Film City Road, Goregaon, Mumbai. Founded by the Reserve Bank of India, IGIDR is recognized by the UGC and accredited by NAAC. Its mission is to conduct advanced, multidisciplinary research on developmental issues, encompassing economics, energy policy, and environmental studies.
IGIDR offers M.Sc. (Economics), Ph.D. (Development Studies), and post-doctoral programs, attracting scholars from across India and abroad. The institute has a compact but highly specialized academic community, with around 26 faculty members, 80 postgraduates, and 60 doctoral students.
The Mumbai campus spans 14 acres, featuring modern classrooms, research centers, a central library, hostels, and seminar halls. IGIDR is known for its strong collaborations with government bodies, international organizations, and research institutions, providing students with exposure to policymaking and applied economics.
