About
Jagannath Barooah University (JBU), Jorhat, Assam, established in 2023, is a state public university located at Barpatra Ali, Jorhat. Recognized under section 2(f) of the UGC Act, the university was founded to expand access to higher education in Upper Assam and to continue the legacy of Jagannath Barooah College, one of the oldest institutions in the region.
The university offers a range of undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and doctoral programs across disciplines including science, commerce, humanities, social sciences, and professional studies. Admissions Open 2026: Courses, Eligibility & Fees
Jagannath Barooah University, Jorhat, was established as a state university in 2023 under the Jagannath Barooah University Act, upgrading the legacy of Jagannath Barooah College (1930). It is recognized by the UGC under section 2(f) and affiliated with the Government of Assam. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in disciplines such as Arts, Science, Commerce, Political Science, Economics, Botany, and Management. Admissions are conducted through CUET UG/PG and merit-based selection for certain programs. Eligibility requires 10+2 with relevant subjects for UG courses and graduation with 50–55% marks for PG programs. The admission process involves online application, entrance exam or merit list evaluation, counseling, and document verification. Fees are highly affordable, with UG programs ranging between ₹15,000–₹30,000 per year and PG programs between ₹20,000–₹40,000 per year, making JBU accessible to students across Assam.
