Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), established in 1989, is a premier autonomous research institution founded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, located at Jakkur, Rachenahalli Lake Road, Bengaluru, Karnataka. Granted deemed-to-be university status in recognition of its outstanding research contributions, JNCASR is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 3 of the UGC Act and accredited by NAAC with an 'A++' Grade. Named in honor of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister and science advocate, JNCASR is dedicated to fundamental and applied research in frontier areas of science and engineering. Consistently ranked among India's top 5 research institutions and recognized globally for its cutting-edge research output, the center houses world-class faculty including Fellows of major international academies (FRS, FNAS, FASc, FNA), with extensive international collaborations with institutions like MIT, Stanford, Cambridge, Oxford, Max Planck Institutes, substantial research funding from national and international agencies, and a track record of groundbreaking discoveries, patents, and innovations that have significantly advanced scientific knowledge.
JNCASR offers highly selective graduate and postgraduate programs primarily focused on research, including Integrated Ph.D. programs (5-year) for students after B.Sc./B.E./B.Tech., Ph.D. programs across Chemistry & Physics of Materials, Engineering Mechanics, Geodynamics & Planetary Studies, Materials Science, Molecular Biology & Genetics, New Chemistry, Theoretical Sciences, and interdisciplinary areas, and Postdoctoral Research opportunities. The institute does not offer traditional undergraduate or master's programs but focuses exclusively on advanced research training. Admission is extremely competitive through national examinations like JEST, GATE, JAM, CSIR-UGC NET, and institute-specific tests.

JNCASR was founded in 1989 and functions as a deemed-to-be university approved by the UGC. It is known for its specialized programs in Chemical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Engineering, and Interdisciplinary Research. Admissions are conducted through national-level entrance exams such as JEE, GATE, CSIR-UGC NET, and JNCASR’s own aptitude tests. For integrated B.S.-Ph.D. programs, students must have completed 10+2 with strong science backgrounds, while postgraduate admissions require graduation in relevant disciplines with high academic merit. The admission process involves online application, aptitude test or national exam scores, interviews, and final selection. Fees are relatively modest compared to private institutions, with integrated and PG programs ranging between ₹30,000–₹60,000 annually, reflecting the institute’s focus on research rather than commercial education.
