Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), established in 1989, is a premier autonomous research institution founded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, located at Jakkur, Rachenahalli Lake Road, Bengaluru, Karnataka. Granted deemed-to-be university status in recognition of its outstanding research contributions, JNCASR is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 3 of the UGC Act and accredited by NAAC with an 'A++' Grade. Named in honor of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister and science advocate, JNCASR is dedicated to fundamental and applied research in frontier areas of science and engineering. JNCASR offers highly selective graduate and postgraduate programs primarily focused on research, including Integrated Ph.D. programs (5-year) for students after B.Sc./B.E./B.Tech., Ph.D. programs across Chemistry & Physics of Materials, Engineering Mechanics, Geodynamics & Planetary Studies, Materials Science, Molecular Biology & Genetics, New Chemistry, Theoretical Sciences, and interdisciplinary areas, and Postdoctoral Research opportunities. The institute does not offer traditional undergraduate or master's programs but focuses exclusively on advanced research training. Admission is extremely competitive through national examinations like JEST, GATE, JAM, CSIR-UGC NET, and institute-specific tests.
