About Khangchendzonga State University

Khangchendzonga State University (KSUS), formerly known as Sikkim State University, is a state government university located in the Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College Complex at PO Tadong, Gangtok, East Sikkim. It was established in 2018 under the Sikkim State University Act, 2003 and later renamed in 2021 as Khangchendzonga State University through Act No. 16 of 2021 passed by the Sikkim State Assembly. The renaming honors Mount Khangchendzonga, the highest peak in India and a symbol of Sikkim’s cultural and natural heritage. The university is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and functions under the Chancellor, who is the Governor of Sikkim. Its academic focus is on postgraduate education and research, particularly in the fields of Bhutia, Lepcha, Limboo, Nepali, and Sanskrit, reflecting the state’s rich linguistic and cultural diversity. KSUS aims to cultivate an environment of excellence in teaching, research, and innovation across Arts, Science, and Technology. Its mission is to provide affordable, quality education for the development of human resources in Sikkim and India at large. The campus at Tadong is integrated with the Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College Complex, offering facilities for classrooms, libraries, and cultural activities.
