About
Maharaja Bir Bikram University (MBBU), established in 2017, is a state government university located in Agartala, Tripura. Named after Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya Bahadur, the visionary ruler of Tripura, the university was set up to expand higher education opportunities in the state. It is recognized by the UGC and affiliated with the Government of Tripura.
MBBU offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in arts, science, commerce, and professional studies. The campus provides modern classrooms, laboratories, a central library, hostels, and sports facilities, ensuring a balanced academic and extracurricular environment.

The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and doctoral programs in Arts, Science, Commerce, Education, and Social Sciences. Admissions are conducted through CUET UG/PG, state-level entrance exams, and merit-based selection depending on the program. Eligibility requires 10+2 with relevant subjects for UG courses and graduation in relevant disciplines for PG programs. Fee highlights show that UG programs cost between ₹8,000–₹20,000 per year, while PG programs range between ₹12,000–₹30,000 per year, making MBBU one of the most affordable public universities in Tripura.

MBBU provides financial support through government scholarships (SC/ST/OBC, minority, EWS) and institutional merit-based concessions. Fee waivers are extended to economically weaker sections, while merit scholarships are awarded to top-performing students in CUET, state-level exams, and board results. Special scholarships are also available for girls, differently-abled students, and achievers in sports or cultural activities.
