NIST University, located at Pallur Hills near Berhampur in Ganjam District, Odisha, is a private technical research university established in 1996. Formerly known as the National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST), it was promoted by the SM Charitable Educational Trust under the vision of its founder chairman, Dr. Sukant Kumar Mohapatra. The institution was upgraded to university status to expand its academic and research scope, and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), approved by AICTE, and accredited by NAAC.
