About Odia University

Odia University, located at Satyabadi in Puri District, Odisha, is a public state language university established under the Odia University Act, 2017. It is the first of its kind in India, dedicated exclusively to the study, research, and promotion of the Odia language, literature, and culture. The university was created after Odia was officially recognized as a Classical Language of India in 2014, with the aim of preserving and enhancing its rich literary and cultural heritage. The first academic session of Odia University began on 5 September 2023. The university offers postgraduate programs such as M.A. in Odia Language and Literature, Regional Tribal Language and Heritage Studies, and related fields. It emphasizes research in linguistics, history, folklore, and cultural studies, while also promoting interdisciplinary learning. Admissions are merit-based, and the institution is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The Satyabadi campus currently spans about 17–25 acres and is situated in a serene environment conducive to academic and cultural pursuits. Equipped with classrooms, libraries, and cultural facilities, the university fosters a vibrant atmosphere for students and researchers. Guided by its motto “Bande Utkala Janani” (“I Adore Thee, O Mother Utkala”), Odia University has emerged as a pioneering institution in Odisha, nurturing scholars who contribute meaningfully to the preservation and advancement of Odia language and culture.
