Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), located at Surya Nagar in Bhubaneswar, is a public state university established in 1962 by the then Chief Minister Biju Patnaik. It is the second-oldest agricultural university in India and is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Veterinary Council of India (VCI), AICTE, and NAAC. OUAT was created to strengthen agricultural education, research, and extension services in Odisha, and it has since grown into one of the country’s leading agricultural institutions. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in diverse fields such as Agriculture, Horticulture, Veterinary Science, Forestry, Agricultural Engineering, Home Science, Fisheries, and allied sciences. It also provides programs in basic sciences like Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biotechnology, Microbiology, and Computer Science. Admissions are conducted through OUAT’s own entrance examinations and ICAR quotas, depending on the program. OUAT has 11 constituent colleges and four academic campuses across Odisha, with specialized wings for research, extension services, and planning. It collaborates with premier institutions like IIT Roorkee and IIT Delhi for agricultural research and innovation. The university has developed numerous crop varieties, technologies, and extension programs, and it operates Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) across districts to support farmers with training and modern practices. The Bhubaneswar campus is urban and well-equipped with laboratories, libraries, hostels, and research centers.
