About
The PHFI Institute of Public Health Sciences (PHFI–IPHS), located at Kismatpur, Hyderabad, is a newly recognized deemed-to-be university under the UGC Distinct Category Regulations, 2023. Established by the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI), the institute is dedicated to advancing public health education, research, and policy development in India.
The university was created to address the growing need for a specialized institution that can train professionals in epidemiology, health systems, policy, and community health. It offers programs such as the Master of Public Health (MPH), doctoral studies, and certificate courses, combining academic rigor with practical fieldwork and policy engagement.
The campus at Kismatpur is equipped with modern classrooms, research laboratories, libraries, and training centers, fostering an environment of innovation and collaboration. As part of the PHFI network, which includes the Indian Institutes of Public Health (IIPHs) across India, PHFI–IPHS benefits from strong national and international partnerships that enhance its teaching and research capabilities.

PHFI–IPHS was established under the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) and functions as a deemed-to-be university. It offers specialized programs such as Master of Public Health (MPH), M.Sc. in Epidemiology, PG Diplomas, and Ph.D. programs in public health sciences. Admissions are conducted through entrance tests and merit lists, with eligibility requiring graduation in medicine, life sciences, or allied health disciplines for MPH/M.Sc., and postgraduation with 55% marks for Ph.D. programs. The fee structure is moderate compared to global public health schools, with MPH programs costing around ₹2–3 lakhs annually, making it accessible to Indian and international students.
Campus Life and Facilities
The Hyderabad campus is part of PHFI’s nationwide network of Institutes of Public Health (IIPHs). Facilities include modern classrooms, epidemiology and biostatistics labs, a central library, computer centers, hostels, sports facilities, medical services, and research hubs. Scholarships & Fee Concessions
PHFI offers a limited number of scholarships and fellowships to meritorious students enrolled in on-campus programs. Over the past 17 years, 616 students across PHFI’s institutes have benefitted from scholarships funded by organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), Pfizer, Infosys, McKinsey & Company, and P&G. Scholarships may include tuition fee waivers, fellowships, and international training opportunities, with around 20–25% of students benefitting annually.
