Sambalpur University, located at Jyoti Vihar in Burla, Sambalpur District, Odisha, is a public research university established on 1 January 1967 by the Odisha Legislature. Popularly known as Jyoti Vihar, it was created to serve the educational needs of western Odisha and has since grown into one of the state’s leading universities. The Governor of Odisha serves as its Chancellor, and the institution is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and accredited with Grade A by NAAC. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs across disciplines such as Arts, Science, Commerce, Management, and Social Sciences.
