Sampurnanand Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya (SSVV), Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) is one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions dedicated to the study of Sanskrit language, literature, and Indian philosophical traditions. Established in 1791 as the Government Sanskrit College, it was elevated to university status in 1958 and renamed in 1974 to honor Dr. Sampurnanand, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Located at Jagatganj, Chaukaghat, Varanasi – 221002, the university has a sprawling 67-acre urban campus recognized by the UGC and accredited by NAAC. It houses faculties such as Veda-Vedanga, Sahitya Sanskriti, Darshan, Sramana Vidya, and Adhunika Gyan Vijyana, offering undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in Sanskrit, Vedic studies, philosophy, linguistics, and allied subjects. SSVV is regarded as one of the largest Sanskrit universities in the world, attracting students and researchers globally who are interested in classical Indian knowledge systems. With its motto “Srutam me gopaya” (Let my learning be safe), the university continues to play a pivotal role in the preservation, promotion, and advancement of Sanskrit scholarship.
