Established in 1995 by the Government of India, Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) is a premier public institute located on E.M. Bypass Road, Panchasayar, Kolkata, West Bengal. SRFTI offers specialized postgraduate diploma and degree programs in disciplines such as Direction & Screenplay Writing, Cinematography, Editing, Sound Recording & Design, Producing for Film & Television, and Animation Cinema. Admissions Open 2026: Courses, Eligibility & Fees
SRFTI was founded in 1995 and is named after legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray. It is a UGC-recognized deemed-to-be university and approved by AICTE. The institute offers MFA and PG diploma programs in cinematic studies, including Direction, Screenplay Writing, Cinematography, Editing, Sound Recording & Design, Producing, and Electronic & Digital Media. Admissions are conducted through the JET (Joint Entrance Test) organized by NTA, followed by orientation workshops and interviews. Eligibility requires a bachelor’s degree in any discipline, with specific requirements for technical courses. Fees are subsidized compared to private film schools, with PG programs costing around ₹1–1.5 lakhs annually.
