Named after the legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray, the institute is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and operates under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. It is one of India’s leading film schools, alongside FTII Pune, offering world-class training in cinema and television. SRFTI offers specialized postgraduate diploma and degree programs in disciplines such as Direction & Screenplay Writing, Cinematography, Editing, Sound Recording & Design, Producing for Film & Television, and Animation Cinema. Admissions Open 2026: Courses, Eligibility & Fees

SRFTI was founded in 1995 and is named after legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray. It is a UGC-recognized deemed-to-be university and approved by AICTE. The institute offers MFA and PG diploma programs in cinematic studies, including Direction, Screenplay Writing, Cinematography, Editing, Sound Recording & Design, Producing, and Electronic & Digital Media. Admissions are conducted through the JET (Joint Entrance Test) organized by NTA, followed by orientation workshops and interviews. Eligibility requires a bachelor’s degree in any discipline, with specific requirements for technical courses. Fees are subsidized compared to private film schools, with PG programs costing around ₹1–1.5 lakhs annually.
