Saurashtra University, located on Kalavad Road in Rajkot, Gujarat, is a public state university established in 1967 under the Saurashtra University Act passed by the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. It was created to serve the educational needs of the Saurashtra region after the formation of Gujarat state in 1961. The university is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), accredited with an A grade by NAAC, and has affiliations with more than 250 colleges across the region. The Governor of Gujarat serves as its Chancellor, and the current Vice-Chancellor is Dr. Utpal S. Joshi.
The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs across disciplines such as Arts, Science, Commerce, Education, Law, Management, Medicine, and Social Sciences. Popular programs include MBA, B.Ed., M.Sc., MA, and Ph.D. in diverse fields. Admissions are conducted through merit-based selection via the Gujarat Common Admission System (GCAS) and entrance exams like CMAT for MBA and university-specific tests for M.Pharma, M.Phil., M.Sc., and Ph.D. programs.
The Rajkot campus is urban, spread across 363 acres, and equipped with modern infrastructure including libraries, laboratories, hostels, sports facilities, and cultural centers.
