Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University (SDM University), located at Manjushree Nagar, Sattur, Dharwad, was established in 2018 by the Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Educational Society. It is a private university recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The institution was founded with a strong focus on health sciences and allied disciplines, anchored by the SDM College of Medical Sciences & Hospital.

It is a state private university recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and approved by AICTE, PCI, and other statutory bodies depending on the programs offered. The university specializes in medical sciences, dental sciences, nursing, physiotherapy, pharmacy, and allied health sciences, along with management and humanities. Admissions are conducted through NEET UG/PG, CET, COMEDK, and university entrance exams, depending on the program. Eligibility requires 10+2 with science subjects for UG programs, graduation in relevant fields for PG programs, and postgraduation with 55% marks for Ph.D. programs.
