About Sikkim Manipal University
Sikkim Manipal University (SMU), situated at 5th Mile, Tadong in Gangtok (East Sikkim), is one of the most prominent private universities in the northeastern region of India. Established in 1995 through a unique partnership between the Government of Sikkim and the Manipal Education & Medical Group (MEMG), it was originally named Sikkim Manipal University of Health, Medical and Technological Sciences. Over the years, it has expanded into a multidisciplinary institution offering a wide range of academic programs.
The university is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and accredited by NAAC, with approvals from statutory bodies such as AICTE, PCI, and AIU. Its sprawling campus covers about 35 acres and is equipped with modern infrastructure including smart classrooms, advanced laboratories, libraries, hostels, and medical facilities.
