About Sikkim Medical Science University
Sikkim Medical Science University (SMSU), located on Jorethang Road near the petrol pump in Namchi, is a state private university established by the Government of Sikkim in 2024 under Act No. 2 of 2024. It is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and was created with the vision of becoming Sikkim’s premier institution dedicated exclusively to medical and health sciences education. Nestled in the Himalayan foothills, the university emphasizes excellence in healthcare training, research, and innovation.
SMSU offers a range of programs including MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery), B.Sc. Nursing, B.Pharm (Pharmacy), PG Diploma in Emergency Medicine, and BPT (Physiotherapy), with plans to expand into postgraduate and doctoral programs in the coming years. The curriculum is designed to align with national healthcare standards and the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), ensuring that students gain both academic knowledge and hands-on clinical experience.
The Namchi campus features modern laboratories, digital learning facilities, skill training centers, and a green, eco-friendly environment. SMSU also emphasizes industry collaboration, hospital partnerships, and innovation hubs, preparing students to become next-generation healthcare leaders. Admissions for the 2025–26 academic session are currently open for MBBS, Nursing, and Paramedical courses, marking the beginning of its first academic batch.
