About Sikkim Organic Agriculture University
Sikkim Organic Agriculture University (SOAU), located at Pragati Chowk in District Soreng, is a newly established private university created under the Sikkim Organic Agriculture University Act, 2024 passed by the Sikkim Legislative Assembly. It is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956. The university was founded with the vision of making Sikkim a global hub for organic farming, sustainable agriculture, and eco-friendly innovation, in line with the state’s pioneering status as India’s first fully organic state.
SOAU offers undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and doctoral programs in fields such as Organic Agriculture, Horticulture, Agribusiness, Environmental Sciences, Biotechnology, and Allied Sciences. Its curriculum is aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) and emphasizes practical training, research, and entrepreneurship in organic farming and sustainable practices. The university also integrates vocational education and incubation facilities to support startups in agriculture and eco-friendly industries.
The Soreng campus is designed to be eco-friendly and student-centric, featuring smart classrooms, laboratories, demonstration farms, libraries, and research hubs.
