Smt. Nathibai Damodar Thackersey (SNDT) Women's University was established in 1916 by Bharat Ratna Maharshi Dr. Dhondo Keshav Karve, with generous philanthropic support from Sir Vitthaldas Thackersey, making it the first women's university in India and the first of its kind in South and South-East Asia. Reva University The university was named in 1920 in fond memory of Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey, the mother of Sir Vitthaldas Thackersey, who pledged ?15 Lakhs — a princely sum at the time — towards its endowment. Wikipedia Headquartered at 1, Nathibai Thackersey Road, Churchgate, Mumbai – 400020, SNDT is a State Government (Aided) University governed by the Government of Maharashtra, with its motto "An Enlightened Woman is a Source of Infinite Strength." The university is recognized by the UGC under Section 2(f) and 12(B), approved by AICTE and Bar Council of India (BCI), and re-accredited with a prestigious NAAC 'A+' Grade — a distinction it has maintained across four consecutive NAAC cycles. Remarkably, in 2000, SNDT became the first university in Maharashtra and the second in India to voluntarily apply for and successfully receive NAAC's highest 'A' Grade accreditation. Reva University The university is ranked in the 151–200 band under the University category by NIRF 2025 and among the Top 20th Universities in Maharashtra by EduRank. With a proud legacy spanning over a century, SNDT Women's University currently nurtures more than 50,000 students across three campuses — Churchgate (Mumbai), Juhu (Mumbai), and Karve Road (Pune) Careers360, supported by over 1,100 teaching and non-teaching staff.
