About Tamil Nadu Teacher Education University
Tamil Nadu Teacher Education University (TNTEU), located at Gangaiamman Koil Street, Karapakkam in Chennai, is a state public university established in 2008 by the Government of Tamil Nadu under Act No. 33 of 2008. It is dedicated exclusively to teacher education, making it one of the few universities in India with a specialized focus on preparing and developing educators.
TNTEU is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and accredited with an ‘A’ grade (CGPA 3.17) by NAAC in its first cycle. The university oversees more than 730 affiliated colleges of education across Tamil Nadu, ensuring uniform standards in teacher training and professional development.
The university offers programs at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels, including B.Ed., M.Ed., Ph.D., and diploma courses in teacher education and pedagogy. It emphasizes research in education, curriculum innovation, and modern teaching methodologies, preparing dynamic teachers for schools and higher education institutions.
