About Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R.Medical University
The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University (TNMGRMU), located at No. 69, Anna Salai, Guindy, Chennai – 600032, is a state public medical university established in 1987 by the Government of Tamil Nadu. It was named in honor of Dr. M.G. Ramachandran, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, and is one of the largest medical universities in India, overseeing medical and allied health education across the state.
The university is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and approved by national councils such as the Medical Council of India (MCI), Dental Council of India (DCI), Indian Nursing Council (INC), and other professional bodies. It affiliates more than 700 institutions in Tamil Nadu, covering disciplines such as Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Allied Health Sciences, and Public Health.
TNMGRMU offers programs at the undergraduate, postgraduate, super-specialty, and doctoral levels, including MBBS, BDS, MD, MS, MDS, DM, MCh, and Ph.D. programs. The university emphasizes research, clinical training, and community health, preparing healthcare professionals to meet both national and global standards.
