Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai, established on 1 June 1945, is a premier national research institute under the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India. Located at Dr. Homi Bhabha Road, Navy Nagar, Colaba, Mumbai, TIFR functions as a public deemed university recognized by the UGC. It is renowned for advanced research and education in natural sciences, biological sciences, mathematics, and theoretical computer science. The institute has an urban campus spread over 15 acres and also operates centres in Bengaluru, Pune, and Hyderabad. TIFR awards master’s and doctoral degrees, with a strong emphasis on Ph.D. programs. It hosts around 268 academic staff and nearly 700 students, including over 650 doctoral candidates.
