Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, established in 1936 as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work, is one of India’s oldest and most prestigious institutions in the field of social sciences. It was renamed in 1944 and declared a Deemed-to-be University in 1964 under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. Located at VN Purav Marg, Deonar, Chembur, Mumbai, the main campus spans 21 acres and includes the Naoroji Campus. TISS is a multi-campus public university, with additional campuses in Tuljapur (Maharashtra), Hyderabad, and Guwahati. The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, was established in 1936 and is recognized as a Deemed University under the University Grants Commission (UGC). It is one of India’s most prestigious institutions for social sciences, public policy, and development studies. TISS offers undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and doctoral programs in disciplines such as Social Work, Sociology, Public Policy, Development Studies, Human Resource Management, Health Systems, Education, and Disaster Management. Admissions are conducted through the TISS National Entrance Test (TISS-NET), followed by TISS Online Assessment (OA) and interviews. Eligibility requires 10+2 for UG programs and a bachelor’s degree in any discipline for PG programs. Fees are affordable compared to private universities, with PG programs ranging between ₹60,000–₹1,20,000 per year, while doctoral programs cost around ₹80,000–₹1,50,000 annually.
