Utkal University, located at Vani Vihar in Bhubaneswar, is the oldest university in Odisha and the 17th-oldest in India. Established on 27 November 1943, it was created to serve as the premier institution of higher education in the state. Recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) as a Category 1 university, it is accredited by NAAC and affiliated with AIU, AICTE, and PCI. The Governor of Odisha serves as its Chancellor, and the university currently has an urban campus spread across nearly 400 acres. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, M.Phil., and doctoral programs across a wide range of disciplines including Arts, Science, Commerce, Law, Management, Social Sciences, and emerging fields like Biotechnology, Computer Science, and Environmental Studies. It has specialized centers for innovation, incubation, and research, and regularly organizes national and international seminars, workshops, and conferences. With over 4,000 students and nearly 200 academic staff, Utkal University continues to play a pivotal role in shaping Odisha’s higher education landscape.
