Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), located at Siddhi Vihar in Burla, Sambalpur District, Odisha, is a premier public technical university established in 2009 by upgrading the University College of Engineering (UCE), Burla. Originally founded in 1956 as the first engineering college of Odisha, UCE was named after Veer Surendra Sai, the legendary freedom fighter of western Odisha, and later transformed into VSSUT to strengthen technical education and research in the state. The university is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), approved by AICTE, and accredited by NAAC.
VSSUT offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in engineering, technology, and applied sciences. Its flagship programs include B.Tech, M.Tech, MCA, MBA, and Ph.D. in multiple specializations such as Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, and Metallurgy. Admissions are conducted through national and state-level entrance examinations like JEE Main and OJEE.
The Burla campus is spread across 300 acres and is residential, equipped with modern infrastructure including laboratories, libraries, hostels, sports facilities, and innovation hubs. VSSUT emphasizes research, entrepreneurship, and industry collaboration, with initiatives like the Centre of Excellence in Green Energy and Sensor Systems and student-led projects such as satellite development and robotics.
