Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), located on Tiruvalam Road, Katpadi in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, is a prestigious private deemed-to-be university established in 1984 by Dr. G. Viswanathan. Originally founded as Vellore Engineering College, it was conferred university status in 2001 under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956.
