Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Awadh University (RMLAU), Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh—commonly known as Avadh University—was established on 4 March 1975 by the Government of Uttar Pradesh. Initially set up as an affiliating university, it was later renamed in 1993–94 in memory of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia, a noted freedom fighter and socio-economic ideologue. The university assumed the status of an affiliating-cum-residential institution in 1984.
